Design Language and User Dashboards
Introduction
Nexum is a transparent loan origination crypto to fiat lending protocol. When they first approached me, they wanted to only revamp their dashboard without moving around the components at all. However a few discussions and a couple americano’s later we decided to build a design language that can work on the public facing pages, user accessed dashboards and administration panels. To top it all it came in light and dark modes.
The Objectives
Build a Design Language
Build a design language that works across devices, is targeted towards financial systems, is not over complicated and is build with simplified atomic structure for the internal teams to use.
Build Dashboard
Dashboards to be built with the design language using the available information structure and layouts. Minor adjustments permitted with some new and interesting additions to solve certain problems with visibility of urgently noticeable content.
Enable Color Modes
Introduce color modes for the users to reduce eye fatigue.
The Process
Sketches
I sketched out components that I felt would either be complicated, or would need better understanding or multiple passes to get the right one.
Breaking Down Brand and Elements
Using their brand, I introduced a mono version of their logo to be used if required, created a palette that works throughout with multiple options for different executions and created a pattern that can compliment everything.
Starting with forms
One of the most dreadful things is filling out forms, even worse when the forms are not aesthetically pleasing. I started tackling this first and let the rest fill in. Not to forget customization was at the core of all the items.
Expanding but not limited to
The design language expanded from the forms and was atomic in nature, which helped in building a more cohesive, streamlined and consistent library. Everything was designed keeping both color modes in mind.
Implementation
The dashboards were being created in tandem with the design language to maintain a visual harmony. Some of it was part of trial and error so improvements could be made in real time.
